Kosovo temporarily suspends visa regime for the citizens of Ukraine

9 March 2022 - Upon the request of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of the Republic of Kosovo, Mrs. Donika Gërvalla-Schwarz, the Government Cabinet issued a decision whereby temporarily suspending the entry visa regime for citizens of Ukraine who will enter the Republic of Kosovo.

The request of Minister Gërvalla-Schwarz comes as a result of the situation created in Ukraine following the military aggression and continuation of the invasion by the Russian Federation.

“Based on the situation that has been created, we request the consideration of the possibility for the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, due to humanitarian reasons, to temporarily suspend the visa regime for the citizens of Ukraine”, Gërvalla-Schwarz stated at the Government meeting.

The Chief Diplomat stated that this decision will alleviate the situation of the citizens of Ukraine, who are being forced to leave their country.

“Referring to the situation created in Ukraine following the military aggression of the Russian Federation, we consider that the suspension of visa regime for the Ukrainian citizens would positively contribute to their entry or transit through the territory of the Republic of Kosovo" Minister Gërvalla-Schwarz stated.

Days ago, upon the initiation of the MFAD, the Government allocated funds to shelter 20 Ukrainian journalists.

Also, Kosovo has joined sanctions that the European Union and United States of America have imposed against Russian Federation.
