Minister Gërvalla receives Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu - the two countries sign cooperation agreements

The Deputy Prime Minister, at the same time the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Mrs. Donika Gërvalla, received today in a meeting her counterpart, the Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu

In the conference after the meeting, Minister Gërvalla thanked his Turkish counterpart for the support that his country has given to the Republic of Kosovo in the field of health, education and in many other fields.

Gërvalla said that it is always a pleasure to expect a counterpart and a good friend of Kosovo, who knows well the history of oppression and genocide in Kosovo and, in all his movements, does not forget the experience not only historical, but also very fresh genocide in the region

Speaking of the developments in the region, with special emphasis on the situation in Ukraine, Minister Gërvalla said that the Republic of Kosovo values Russia and Serbia as a destabilizing factor.

Kosovo has a clear position: we see Russia, but also Serbia not only as aggressive factors but also destabilized for our entire region. We hope that the mediation efforts of the European Union, NATO, but also Turkey will contribute to making it impossible for Serbia and the Serb separatists in Bosnia and Herzegovina, under the shadow of Russian aggression in Ukraine and with Russia's help, to destabilize the Western Balkans and Southeast Europe," Gërvalla said.

The Foreign Minister also said that he talked with his Turkish counterpart about the deepening of cooperation between the two countries, the creation of opportunities for more Turkish direct investment in Kosovo and the maximum use of the potential offered under the Free Trade Agreement, which entered into force in June 2019.

Minister Çavuşoğlu, thanking Minister Gërvalla for the hospitality, stressed that the Republic of Kosovo is a friendly country and that his country supports Kosovo on its Euro-Atlantic path.

"I want to reiterate our position on supporting Kosovo's territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as its integration into international institutions and Euro-Atlantic organizations," Cavusoglu said.

He also said that they are aiming for investments in Kosovo and that they are looking at opportunities, especially for investments in the field of energy.

Kosovo and Turkey, in advance, signed an agreement in the field of aviation, according to which the number of flights between the two countries will increase.

The agreement was signed by the Turkish Foreign Minister, Mr. Çavuşoğlu, and the Minister of Infrastructure of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Liburn Aliu.
