Kosovo and Switzerland held political consultations at the level of Ministries of Foreign Affairs

Prishtina, 28 June 2022 - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr Kreshnik Ahmeti, and the State Secretary of Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, Mrs Livia Leu, on Tuesday led the political consultations that took place in Prishtina between the delegations of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of both countries.

During these consultations, the current cooperation between the two countries, the contribution that Switzerland has given to the Republic of Kosovo and the contribution of the great Albanian diaspora in Swiss institutions and society were highly praised.

Mr Ahmeti and Mrs Leu also discussed about the possibilities of further expanding cooperation in the field of economy, trade, justice and security.

At the multilateral level, Deputy Minister Ahmeti informed the Swiss delegation about the plans of the Republic of Kosovo for membership in international organizations and the current process of membership in the Council of Europe. He thanked Switzerland for the permanent assistance it has provided to the membership processes of the Republic of Kosovo in various international and regional organizations.

Secretary of State Leo briefed on the priorities that Switzerland will have as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, from 2023 to 2024.

The two delegations also discussed about the military aggression of the Russian Federation in Ukraine and the effects that this war has and may have on the region of Southeast Europe.

Deputy Minister Ahmeti informed Mrs Leu for the alignment of the Republic of Kosovo with democratic countries, embracing all packages of sanctions, and for the solidarity of Kosovo with Ukrainian citizens.

The parties agreed to maintain the regular organization of political consultations between the two countries.
